Through our Health Service Support Contract with the Department of National Defence, Calian’s professionals work in partnership with military teams providing primary healthcare care to today’s Canadian Forces. Calian’s healthcare teams consist of more than 500 professionals providing services coast-to-coast at over 30 locations in Canada.

Job Description:
For some military members returning home the psychological and social effects of operations may not become apparent for months or years. These effects could include substance abuse, PTSD, depression, anxiety, somatic complaints, relationship problems and family stress.

This unique opportunity will allow you to work in partnership with military healthcare providers promoting wellness & providing timely interventions that support and empower military members to achieve their highest level of functioning – both at work and at home.

Your Contribution:

Providing individual and family treatment services and assessments, crises interventions and evaluating treatment.
Providing case coordination
Developing and facilitating educational activates and group interventions
Leading or participating in development of new interventions and treatment approaches
Developing and delivering outreach materials to bases and units

Mandatory Qualifications:

Must be a graduate of a recognized University with a Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work
Must have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience providing a broad range of activities in an adult mental health care environment including: assessments and treatment for individuals, couples and families.
Must hold a current membership certificate with the Alberta College of Social Workers

This exciting position reports directly to the Manager, Industrial Engineering. Key Responsibilities

Produce plans, drawings and schedules for proposed projects
Ensure the basic structural design of lifting devices and other mechanisms
Assist in the development of the yearly plant capital budget
Remain up to date with and apply Lean/Continuous Improvement methodologies
Liaise with outside contractors engaged in plant modifications, extensions and equipment Installation
Participate in engineering programs related to processes, methods, machinery and its installation in order to optimize production and construction activities
Prepare costs, time estimates and conceptual specifications for new proposed equipment
Work closely with plant personnel to improve processes and rectify production problems
Ensure that all plant tooling is maintained or replaced as needed
Be familiar with various manufacturing and production processes as they relate to Carte
Maintain a good understanding of HVAC, electrical supply and systems
Be involved in planning and projects relating to structural and HVAC expansion of facilities

Selection Criteria

Certified Engineering Technologist
Demonstrated proficiency in Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies
Minimum 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing setting preferably in the durable goods, mechanical and/or electrical industry
Experience in project management
Strong organization and communication skills as well as a proven record of dependability and solid work ethic
Positive, enthusiastic, independent attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
Experience working with capital, retrofit and expansion projects is an asset

Aaron's Inc. to open 1,000 jobs in US, Canada

Atlanta-based electronics, appliances and furniture rentals retailer Aaron's Inc. announced its plans to add 1,000 retail jobs in the United States and canada this year.

Durings its national managers meeting in Orlando, Florida, Aaron's said it has already added 50 employees so far this year and is on target to hire 500 more based on current store opening plans.

Aaron's CEO and President Robin Loudermilk estimates another 75 franchised stores will ope and create 400 news jobs.

Canada implements protection system for temporary foreign workers

A new protection system for participants in Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program is being implemented by the government.

The amended visa rules are due to take effect imminently after first being published in the Canada Gazette Part 1 on October 9, 2009, and will serve to strengthen the programme.

Immigration minister for Canada, Jason Kenney, said it was a crucial step that would limit the ability for employers to take advantage of foreign workers.

“The government is taking action to protect temporary foreign workers, including live-in caregivers, from potential abuse and exploitation,” he said.

“We owe it to them, their employers and all Canadians to ensure that the program is fair and equitable. After all, they are an essential element of Canada’s economic success.”

Key components in the changes will include a more in-depth analysis of the legitimacy of job offers, longer bans on employers who have previously neglected their commitments to their foreign workers, and more regulations on the length of validity of the assigned visas.

The visas have proven increasingly important to the Canadian economy recently, permitting foreign workers to fill labour needs that are not being fulfilled by the permanent Canadian workforce.
